Athens Nurses' Clinic is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) nurse-run organization providing free health care to the homeless and uninsured.
Clients are eligible for services if they have no form of insurance.
Clients with Medicare, Medicaid private and/or Veteran's Benefits are not eligible.
Current staff includes nurse practitioners, a registered nurse, a clinic director, and a translator. Several local dentists also volunteer on a regular basis.
A collaborating physician is available during clinic hours.
Mission:
To provide primary and episodic health care to the homeless and uninsured of Athens-Clarke County and Northeast Georgia.
Homelessness, no healthcare insurance, and limited or no access to affordable healthcare, are growing concerns. Currently, Athens-Clarke County has a poverty rate of 28%.
Athens-Clarke county also has a growing Hispanic community bringing additional concerns and healthcare challenges to their community.
When healthcare is unavailable or inaccessible to individuals and families, the overall quality of life in the community is compromised.
